How do you report on multiple marketing channels in one place?

Short answer

Connect each channel once through its official API, let the data sync on a schedule, and report from the combined set rather than from exports. Downloading a file per platform and joining them in a spreadsheet has to be repeated every month and breaks whenever a platform changes its export format.

Why does the spreadsheet approach keep breaking?

A monthly report assembled from exports is rebuilt from scratch every month. Each platform exports its own column names, date formats and metric definitions, so the joining work is manual and the result is only as reliable as whoever did it that month.

The failure most agencies recognise is two numbers disagreeing. Two platforms can both be reporting correctly and still disagree, because they count differently. A spreadsheet hides that — it shows two numbers and no explanation.

Which channels should a cross-channel report cover?

Cover the channels where budget or effort actually goes, and nothing else. A report with empty sections trains people to skim it.

NexPulse connects six sources: Meta, covering both Facebook and Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Google Ads, Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console. The three Google connections are available on the Growth and Pro plans.

What should a cross-channel report actually compare?

A single month in isolation says very little. The comparisons that change decisions are against the previous month and the same month last year, because together they separate a real movement from ordinary seasonality.

  • Month on month, to catch what changed recently.
  • Year on year, to separate a change from seasonality.
  • A rolling twelve months, to tell a trend from a spike.

How often should the data refresh?

Often enough that nobody is waiting for it, and not so often that it becomes the point. A scheduled sync that runs on its own is the practical answer: the report is ready when someone opens it rather than being assembled on request.

What matters more than the interval is knowing the state of the data. A report that shows when each channel last synced is trustworthy. One that silently serves stale figures is not.

Frequently asked questions

Why do two platforms report different numbers for the same campaign?
Because they count differently. Attribution windows, what counts as a view, and whether a figure is deduplicated across placements all vary by platform. Both can be correct under their own definitions, which is why a cross-channel report should state the source of each metric.
Do I still need the platform dashboards?
Yes, for campaign management and anything platform-specific. A cross-channel report is for reading performance across channels together. It does not replace the tools you build and optimise campaigns in.
Which channels does NexPulse connect?
Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok, YouTube, Google Ads, Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console. The Google connections require the Growth or Pro plan.
